Opera Air gets performance lift, quality of life improvements, and a new unboxing experience

Hey there,
We’re back with another round of updates to Opera Air. This time we’ll take you through the details of a substantial performance boost, some bug fixes, and new unboxing experience for new users.
We know that one of your favorite aspects about Opera Air is its sleek, modern UI. Taken together with the browser’s calming array of wallpapers – in particular the live wallpapers like Sakura (my personal favorite) – Opera Air creates a relaxing environment from which to explore the web.
Under the hood, however, those processes are fairly CPU intensive. Previously, with every cursor movement, scroll, or click, the entire interface underwent a rendering and blurring process that generated a hefty workload for your PC. So we worked out an innovative solution so that Opera Air can be almost as relaxing for your desktop as it is for you: an advanced cache.
So that means that now, after opening Boosts or Take a Break, we cache it, blur it, and save it as the background. That way, the system provides immediate feedback with minimal processing overhead, so your CPU operates as smoothly as the surface of a lake on a windless day.
That’s not all though, as we engineered a couple more improvements for an even greater performance lift. Scroll Lock – you guessed it – locks the scrolling on an underlying page when the Boosts or Take a Break windows are displayed to eliminate unnecessary page reloads. And for an immediate effect, Intelligent Switching uses a real-time blur layer. As soon as the cache is ready, however, we switch to the ready, blurred version of the background.
These tweaks lift Opera Air’s performance so you get the calming visuals without any delay to your processing speed. In addition, we’ve also fixed a few bugs in the browser, which is still in early access. Now:
- My Flow is functional again
- On Windows, the close tab “X” icon is now more visible
- A green background no longer pops up for some extensions
- Sidebar icons for players are now corrected
- You can find the uninstall button in its proper location
- The browser experiences fewer crashes
And finally, if you haven’t used Opera Air yet, the unboxing experience – the setup when you download the browser – has been tinkered with so that it’s smooth and airy, like a deep breath that fills your lungs to the very top. Give it a try! Download Opera Air now.
